Book Review-Reunited by Hilary Weisman Graham

Good Reads Summary

1 Concert
2000 Miles
3 Ex-Best Friends

Alice, Summer, and Tiernan are ex-best friends.

Back in middle school, the three girls were inseparable. They were also the number one fans of the rock band Level3.

But when the band broke up, so did their friendship. Summer ran with the popular crowd, Tiernan was a rebellious wild-child, and Alice spent high school with her nose buried in books.

Now, just as the girls are about to graduate, Level3 announces a one-time-only reunion show.

Even though the concert’s 2000 miles away, Alice buys three tickets on impulse. And as it turns out, Summer and Tiernan have their own reasons for wanting to get out of town. Good thing Alice’s graduation gift (a pea-green 1976 VW camper van known as the Pea Pod) is just the vehicle to get them there.

But on the long drive cross-country, the girls hit more than a few bumps in the road. Will their friendship get an encore or is the show really over?

Tee's Review

You know me. I cant resist a good road trip book. I also cant resist a good music inspired book, so when I was offered the chance to read the ARC of Reunited, I wasn't about to turn it down. Making it even more fun, it coincided with my own road trip, oddly enough , a road trip to Dallas to see a concert. But unlike Tiernan, Summer and Alice, I wasn't traveling with ex best friends.

The three girls have just graduated from high school, having not spoken in years due to backstabbing and lies at a school dance ( typical high school here) They had been best friends, bonding over Level3, a band that broke up just around the time that their friendship did. In an odd twist of fate, Level3 announces a reunion concert. A one night only show in Austin Texas to help with charity. Alice buys three tickets and convinces Tiernan and Summer to come along. Tiernan and Summer each have reasons to escape and they agree, tho neither one of them have any intention of rekindling old friendships.

The trip is awkward at first. Feelings of hurt  and betrayal loom in the old Volkswagon van they call the Pea Pod,  as they travel across country . But along the way, thru many funny mishaps, alot of tears and adventures and of course the music of Level# they find each other again, and also themselves.

Graham wrote a great debut novel. It was full of fun and touching scenes. Its a quick read that you will love from the very first page. Well paced and breezy, the characters are all believable and likable, tho each are very different from the others. The ending is a funny twist and fairly predictable, but are not most road trip, coming of age books? This is a perfect summer beach read, or if you are like me, the perfect book to take on your own road trip
